Every five years local public service media organisations must apply for a public broadcast license at the Media Regulator. At the same time other organisations can also apply. In case of more than one applicant the Media Authority will ask the local council for advice on which applicant best meets the information needs of its citizens. In Amsterdam in 2018 there were two applicants; the current broadcaster POA/AT5 and a newcomer C-Amsterdam. I was member of the commission that advised the municipality on these applications.
